How does a maverick 21 year old just out of university with an arts degree find himself in a fledgling winery making wine? A lot of good luck you might think? Today, Ben certainly thinks it was, thanks to his father Denis, who in 1992 decided he wanted to produce wine at this property nestled deep in the Skilly Hills of the Clare Valley.
As Denis was working in Malaysia it was left mainly to Ben to fathom the wonders and science of turning the grape into wine. Sometimes it all went smoothly, other times not – but Ben was hooked and has loved every minute of his more than 20 year adventure.
Today Ben crushes around 300 tonnes of fruit and produces about 12,000 cases of wine which he makes with passion and a good dose of maverick spirit and humor. His wines are highly regarded both in Australia and around the world.
